X-Men Group Editor. Day 3 (anyone else getting Majora's Mask flashbacks?)

First of all, Emma and Scott's wedding gets interrupted by the Chronomancer (I prefer that name over "Fitzroy"), so they don't actually get wed. In fact, Emma is going to be one of the mutants missing.

I send the First Look materials of UNCANNY and WOLVERINE to Ben Morse. (Note: With Marko Djurdjevic's permission, I posted his sketches at http://Marveledsim.Blogspot.com).
Could we give them one of the Jock-covers as well for their cover? If not, could Jimmy Cheung come up with something?

Okay, so Michael Ryan is on UNCANNY X-MEN 492 and 493 (the fourth and fifth issue of our run, respectively). I tell Robert Weinberg that those two issues will be the ROAD TO DEFENDERS tie-in issues and feature Magneto. Also, Rogue and Gambit will leave the X-Men and join the Defenders' cause.
I once again tell him that my suggestions were just to have a general direction. If he has something better in mind, he can tell me. I'm sure we'll find a way that makes everyone happy.

I ask the appropriate department if we can get a 90/10 variant cover (preferrably by Arthur Suydam) for the upcoming UNCANNY X-MEN #500.

I inform Newsarama and Comicbookresources about the Diggle/Sudzuka issue in case they want to interview one of them about it.

Are Ed Brubaker and Mike Perkins ready to start on WOLVERINE? If not (you mentioned that we can't use the Vaughan/Risso storyline, so I don't know if we need to stall a bit longer), I'd inform the marketing department to put the Brubaker on WOLVERINE in-house ad campaign on hold for a month. I'd ask David Lapham and Michael Gaydos to create another stopgap issue. If Lapham can't do it, I'll ask Brian Azzarello. If Gaydos can't do it, I'll ask Leonardo Manco.

Next: Solicitations.

Do you still have a single issue of Wolverine hanging around? Did you want to tie that in as well? Cause I'm loving seeing all the cross pollination between Balance of Power and the X-Universe.

Also, do you think Brubaker's stuff can be set in a Balance of Power reflective world? I don't mean a tie in, I just mean if he's in Madripoor there's a bunch of Defenders aid workers making everything great and making, or in a post earthquake NYC? If not it's no big deal, but it'd be some nice additional exposure in one of Marvel's biggest books.

If I had a scene like that in the background, Wolverine wouldn't idly stand by and actually help (and probably get flattened by a whale), which would shift the focus of the book too much. I could ask Ed to mention the Balance of Power stuff in a caption once, but I really want the book to take place in its own little corner of the Marvel universe. I imagine that Wolverine will be present in the New Avengers tie-in issue to Balance of Power, anyway.

Dammit! I thought I was going to trick you into getting Wolverine into my whale-dropping sights.

You're good, Herr Heide, but someday you'll slip up and then...

SPLAT!

And I would have gotten away with it, if it weren't for your pesky whale...

That sounds good -- with the FF movie and Phil's BoP thing coming together, I'm inclined to push the FF a little more than the other books from a marketing POV.

I don't know that X-Men or Spidey need as much exposure to at least retain (relatively speaking) current sales levels

Is this about the inhouse ads?

Hey Mike,

Thanks for the offer of the Jock cover, but we have a strict policy of only running original art on our covers. Also, we like to try and get a big name artist like Michael Turner or Ed McGuinness on board to do the cover to give it a special feel and entice newsstand audiences.

We feel that the X-Men re-launch is a big story and that the material you're offering us exclusively is more than generous, so we'd very much like to give you the cover. The next step for you is to find an artist with name value who'd be willing to do the cover and has room in their schedule and pitch them to us.

Thanks,
Ben

Alright. Thanks for the heads-up.
